I’m working on a new material while I’m putting together my novella and anthology. I’m having a bit of trouble figuring out what I want the story to be about. I know my character, I know what they want, but I don’t know if the story should be about them overcoming a stream of challenges to get the goal in the end.
I know that’s how stories should go, but I want to experiment with this one a little. It’s still going to be in the YA genre. I like giving my characters complex issues to deal with because at a young age there’s so much going on in life that you can’t comprehend. Life can feel like it’s cruel. I feel like these kinds of stories teens and young adults can relate to very well, as I can.
There are many different scenarios that I’d like to run through with my various characters, but trying to find the right one is rather difficult. I want to approach each subject with enough sensitivity that it doesn’t trigger anyone, but have enough realness that one can relate when reading.
I’m looking forward to starting a new project. I get a bit of a rush whenever I do. I can’t wait to find my character’s story and I hope to do its justice.
Thanks for reading!
